Vidya Vyas Award The `Vidya Vyas Puraskar' is an Award bestowed by the Vidya Sahakari Bank, Pune, on a person who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of education. The Award comprises of a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/-,  a memento and a citation. This year, Prof. M. Prakash of the Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana was the recipient of this Award. Prof. Prakash is a devoted teacher of Mathematics and he has been training students for the Mathematical Olympiads, right upto the International level, for many years. Among his students, were Chetan Balve (Gold medal, IMO-1998) and Nikhil Savale (Bronze medal, IMO-2001). In 1998, he initiated the `Gold-2002 Programme', with the aim of training talented 8th Standard students for 4 years so that they may compete for Gold medal at IMO-2002. In the year 2000, 13 students from this Programme were among the top 30 of the Maharashtra and Goa region and of these 2 were INMO awardees. |
Prof. M. Prakash has donated the entire amount of the award to the Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana. |
