IMO 2001 Pre-Departure Camp

Every year, for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), each participating country deputes a team of atmost six students. In India, there is a state level examination (RMO) followed by a National level examination (INMO). The top 30 students of the INMO are the `National Awardees'. These 30 students, together with the National awardees of the previous year, attend a four-week Training Camp. They are given a number of tests and the top 6 students are selected as members of the Indian Team. For these six students a Pre-Departure Camp is arranged usually in Delhi.

Earlier such a Camp for the Indian Team was organised at Bhaskarachrya Pratishthana in July 1996. This year, the Pre-Departure Camp was held at Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana during 23rd June to 1st July 2001.

The programme consisted of lectures by experts, discussions, problem solving sessions and Practice Tests. The Local Co-ordinator for this camp was Prof. S. A. Katre, Depatment of Mathematics, Pune University.

The students were guided by Prof. C. R. Pranesachar, Prof. B. J. Venkatachala, Prof. K. N. Ranganathan, Prof. M. Prakash, Prof. S. A. Katre, and Dr. V. V. Acharya.
B. J. Venkatachala (Team Leader) and K. N. Ranganathan (Deputy Leader) accompanied the Indian Team.
National Co-ordinator, Prof. R. L. Karandikar, Delhi and Prof. D. C. Khandekar, Member Secretary, NBHM, Mumbai, also attended the Camp and gave valuable suggetions to the Students.
