Dr. B.V. Rao Institute of Poultry Management and Technology

DR. BVR IPMT, formerly known as
" Institute of Poultry Management of India - IPMI "

The Institute is a unique Institute in South East Asia, set up to impart sound theoretical as well as comprehensive practical training in any area of Poultry Management on modern and scientific lines to the prospective and existing poultry farmers.

The Institute gives more emphasis on practical, hands-on-the-job training. As such, trainees spend about 75% of the time on farm/in laboratories and about 25% in class rooms on theory.

The Institute is set up on 46 acres of land and is situated near Uruli kanchan, a tiny town, 33 Kms away from Pune city and about 190 Kms from Mumbai (Bombay).

The Institute was formally inaugurated on May 16th, 1987. At Dr. BVR IPMT, we have created excellent in-house facilities for imparting practical, all-round training, like:

Layer farm with 45,000 layer birds capacity,

Broiler farm with 36,000 broiler birds capacity,

(With normal, open sheds for tropical, sub-tropical climate and Environment Controlled shed - a High Tech poultry housing)

These large farms are used for imparting practical training to trainees.

Pathology, Nutrition and Microbiology Laboratories,

Feed Mill - to impart training in Feed Technology,

Well stocked Library, with Audio-visual section,

Modern Computer Section etc.

The Institute is supported by Venkateshwara Hatcheries Group of companies, which is the most itegrated Poultry Group in Asia. Through this Group, the Institute has access to additional sspecialised facilities like large Hatcheries, large scale Feed Mills, Diagnostic Laboratories, Vaccine and Animal Health Product Divisions, Egg and Poultry Processing Plants, Fast Food Industry etc.



  Courses  

All the courses at the Institute are residential courses.
No correspondance courses are conducted.

The Institute primarily conducts three regular and four short-duration, specialised courses, as follows, to meet the immediate requirements of the prospective and present poultry farmers

Facilities


The Institute has highly qualified and experienced in-house, as well as visiting Faculty/ Scientists from the Venkateshwara Hatcheries Group of companies.

Dr. BVR IPMT has facilities to impart training to ladies also. From 1987 to 1997, the Institute has trained more than 2000 persons, both gents and ladies, from India and abroad.

The Institute conducted Special training programmes for Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Food Processing Industries, New Delhi, as well as for State Governments, Financial Institutions/Banks etc.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO of UN), had sponsored senior officers from developing countries like Bangla Desh and Vietnam, for specialised training programmes of different durations.

Private candidates from overseas, like Bangla Desh, Malaysia, Middle East (Sultanate of Oman) and Nepal have also undergone different training programmes

To meet the requirements of International standards, for overseas candidates, as well as Senior Executives of Public and Private sector organizations, the Institute has a new Modern residential facility.

The Institute also has appropriate recreational facilities like Table Tennis, Badminton, Volley Ball, Carrom, Chess, a modern full-fledged Gymnasium etc.

The Institute in addition to training, also undertakes Experiments and Research in various areas of Poultry Science, i.e. Applied Research, which will reduce the cost of production and increase the margin of profit of poultry farmers. It conducts need-based research to solve the problems of Poultry Industry.

Government of India, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi has recognised the Institute as "Scientific and Industrial Research Organization - (SIRO)".

The Institute is engaged in conducting Scientific Field Trials for various organizations/ pharmaceutical companies etc. to test their products, to obtain authentic data on its effect on production performance of layers/broilers, under Indian Agro-climatic conditions, before relasing the product in the market.

The Institute has been offering facilities for conducting field trials for different pharmaceutical products / enzymes / probiotics / growth promoters etc.

It will this be seen that DR. BVR IPMT has all the necessary physical facilities, highly qualified and experienced in-house, as well as visiting scientists to take up any need-based, client oriented, tailor-made training as well as research programme.
