Section 1 Aims & Objectives (a) To catalyze
multidisciplinary research, involving the collaboration of scientists and philosophers, on
foundational issues in the basic sciences that are vital to our worldview, (b) To assist in the
development of the concepts, tools and methods required for emerging areas of
scientific research that transcend disciplinary boundaries and categories, (c) To investigate the
logic, methodology and philosophy of science especially in the context of the
problems of contemporary scientific theory, (d) To foster inquiry
and awareness concerning the human, ethical and philosophical dimensions of
science and technology, (e) To stimulate
critical engagement with the philosophical traditions of India in order to
enable them to continue to enrich thought and action, (f) To promote
intercultural studies in philosophy, through scholarly dialogue between the
philosophical traditions of India and other traditions, on questions of
contemporary knowledge and practice, (g) To advance
intercultural understanding through wide dissemination of the fruits of
dialogue between philosophical traditions of both East and West, (h) To enhance
conceptual capabilities for dealing with questions of human sustenance and
well-being in today’s world, drawing on philosophical insights and methods
from plural traditions, And in pursuance of
the above, to: (i) Initiate and
undertake programmes of research and education designed in consultation with
distinguished experts in the relevant fields, (j) Create a nucleus
of outstanding, creative and dedicated scholars, who will execute the
programmes of the Centre, (k) Obtain and augment
the necessary resources, establish the requisite institutional facilities and
provide appropriate support by way of fellowships, scholarships and grants, (l) Provide opportunities
for interaction between scholars and co-operate with like-minded individuals
and institutions, both nationally and internationally, (m) Develop
consultancy capabilities and services and offer technical guidance to
individuals or agencies for the promotion of the objects of the Centre, (n) Establish
archival, library and other information facilities involving, wherever
necessary, the use of multimedia technologies, (o) Evolve research
networks, both real and virtual, connecting dispersed individuals and
institutions, (p) Aid, advise, or
otherwise encourage, individuals, institutions and initiatives, committed to
the objects of the Centre, (q) Publish
high-quality works in the form of research papers, reports, conference
proceedings, journals, books and monographs, (r) Organize
