Courses & Training Programs
1) PERSONAL COUNSELLING COURSE: This 6-week certificate course in "Personal Counselling" along with ‘Sensitivity training’ is a “practical training program” based on humanistic psychotherapy. It is designed for those who are or want to be in the “helping profession” e.g. social workers, teachers, doctors, psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, trainers, HRD personnel etc. The course aims at meeting the need for continuing formation of professionals. We train candidates in the Robert Carkhuff model of Personal Counselling in this course, which is an extension of Carl Rogers' Client-centred Therapy. 3) Workshop in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy: Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) workshops help counsellors to develop knowledge and skills in this very effective, efficient and empowering method of personal change. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) founded by Albert Ellis is a “cognitive-behavioral” therapy. It was earlier known as Rational Emotive Therapy (RET). It is based on the concept that emotions and behaviors result from cognitive processes; and that it is possible for human beings to modify such processes to achieve different ways of feeling and behaving. The basic premise of this approach is that it is not events that cause our problems, but the way we think about them. In REBT the counsellor helps the client understand the role of such irrational "beliefs" and self-defeating value systems, in causing and maintaining problems in his life. It uses the didactic approach i.e. teaching and re-educating the client in balanced and correct ways of thinking and behaving, and thus helping him acquire rational, realistic and appropriate beliefs of life.
4) Sex Education: A Certificate course to become a “Sex Educator” is organised by the Institute of Human Technology regularly. It is an ideal course for teachers, social workers, paramedical health workers as well as for conscientious parents. Sex education programs specially designed for different age groups and different levels of maturity are also organized through the institute.

Prospectus of the Certificate Course in Personal Counselling is as follows ~
Duration: This is a part-time course consisting of 20 sessions during week-days spread over 5 to 6 weeks.
Timings: 5.30 - 7.30 PM
Venue: Churchgate / Cuffe Parade
Number of Participants: A maximum of 16 participants of both sexes and of various professions.
Objectives: This certificate course in personal counselling aims at meeting the need for continuing formation of professionals. We all experience the need for updating and enriching ourselves, so as to better ourselves as individuals and to raise the quality of the service we are rendering to people. The objective is not to train candidates for the post of counsellor, but rather to assist professionals in the 'helping professions' to enrich the quality of the services they are already rendering to society.
The emphasis throughout the course is on training yourself to:
a) Change certain attitudes and habits, which are not in agreement with correct counselling.
b) Acquire the tools (attitudes and skills) that facilitate the learning process that lead to growth in maturity, and actualization of human potential.
c) Learn the art of listening
d) Study the methodology of correct and complete communication.
e) Get in touch with 'self' in order to have better understanding of the 'other'.
Syllabus: The Robert Carkhuff model of Personal Counselling, which is an offshoot of Carl Roger's Client-Centred Therapy.
This includes:
a) Five stages of the counselling process; the goals to be achieved at each stage; and the means to be used to attain the goals.
b) Practical training for the acquisition of Attending skills, Responding skills, Personalizing skills, Initiating skills and Evaluating skills.
c) Training in empathy, genuineness, respect, concreteness, self-disclosure and confrontation.
Method: Sensitivity training and sharing on a personal level. Group discussions and real counselling practice under supervision. No role-playing is used. Homework assignments are given and extra reading is recommended.

Certificate: A certificate is offered which officially certifies that the trainee has actively participated in a training course in personal counselling, which is based on the Robert R.Carkhuff model.
