WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT FOR TAMILNADU AND PUDUCHERRY FOR

 THE WEEK ENDING  7TH  MAY 2008  /  17TH   VAISAKHA 1930 SAKA

SUMMARY OF WEATHER

Week’s Rainfall :  

Excess : Madurai district.

Normal : Perambalur district.

Deficient: Kanchipuram, Tiruchirapalli,  Vellore and Villupuram districts.

Scanty :  Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Karur, Krishnagiri, Nagapattinam, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Salem, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai and Virudhunagar districts.

No Rain : Chennai, Erode, Kanyakumari, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Theni, Tirunelveli, Tiruvarur and Tuticorin  districts and Puducherry..

03.05.08 : Hosur (Krishnagiri) 1.

 

04.05.08 :  Kallakurichi (Villupuram),  Chettikulam  (Perambalur) and Cheyyur (Kanchipuram) 3 each, Vembavur (Perambalur), Maduranthagam (Kanchipuram) and Padallur (Perambalur) 2 each and Sendamangalam (Namakkal), Samayapuram (Tiruchirapalli), Attur (Salem) and Tiruvannamalai 1 each.

 

05.05.08 : Usilampatti (Madurai) 3, Manaparai (Tiruchirapalli), Kodaikanal  and Vadipatti (Madurai) 2 each and Sholavandan (Madurai), Chinna Kallar (Coimbatore) and Kadavur (Karur) 1 each.

 

06.05.08 : Mettupatti (Madurai) 7.

   

07.05.08 : Omalur (Salem) and Pappireddipatti (Dharmapuri) 1 each.

 

Season’s Rainfall for the period from 01.03.08 to 07.05.08 :

Excess : Chennai, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Erode, Kanchipuram, Kanyakumari, Karur, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Nagapattinam, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Theni, Tirunelveli, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Thiruvarur, Tiruchirapalli, Tuticorin, Vellore,  Villupuram, Virudhunagar  districts and Puducherry.

Chief synoptic features and its weather :   

              Last week's very severe cyclonic storm "Nargis" over East central Bay of Bengal moved east-northeastwards and crossed Myanmar coast near Latitude 16 degrees North in the evening of 2nd May.

 

 A trough on sea level chart was seen from coastal Andhrapradesh to south Tamilnadu across coastal Tamilnadu from 2nd to 7th.

 

An upper air trough was seen over the state on 1st, 5th, 7th  extending up to 0.9 kilometers above sea level.

 

Temperatures:  Heat wave conditions prevailed over parts of north coastal Tamilnadu on 2nd and 3rd. 

Maximum temperatures were appreciably to markedly above normal at a few places over north Tamilnadu on 2nd and 3rd, at one or two places on 1st and 5th, appreciably above normal at a few places on 7th, at one or two places on 4th,6th,  above normal at one or two places over rest Tamilnadu on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th and were generally normal over the remaining parts of the state during the week.

 

Damage reports: As per media reports on 7th May, 2 persons 1 each from Vellore and Dindigul districts lost their lives due to lightning.

Rainfall :  Isolated rainfall occurred over the state from 2nd  to 7th and dry weather prevailed on 1st.
