MINUTES OF LOCAL COUNCIL MEETING
HELD ON 14/06/2007
The council meeting was
attended by the Chairman Dr. R.V. Sharma, Secretary Shri. R. Nallaswamy,
members S/Shri. S.Raghavan, V.K. Raman, S.R. Ramanan, S.
Balachandran. Dr.(Smt.) N. Jayanthi attended
the meeting as a special invitee. The meeting commenced with welcome address by
the Chairman. The Secretary read out the minutes of the last council meeting
held on 16/03/2007, which was approved by the committee. The secretary
presented the activities report since last meeting.
After discussion it was decided to
hold the annual general body meeting and the election for office bearers for
the years 2007-2009 on 19th July 2007. Dr.(Smt.)
N. Jayanthi, ADGM(Retd.) was nominated as the returning officer.
Discussion
was held regarding conducting a seminar for teachers & students in the
month of August. It was decided to have a half a day seminar and to invite 2
students of 11th & 12th Std. from 20 schools with 1
teacher each and also to conduct a writing competition on the topic
"Climate change: as I perceive". A committee will screen the articles
and 10 students will be selected and asked them to present their papers. 2 or 3
prizes will be given for the best articles. Participation Certificate will be issued
for all the students. The last date for receiving the articles will be July 20th
2007. The same will be finalized by 31st July. 1 or 2 lectures may
also be arranged during the seminar. The seminar can be held after 15th
August 2007. The final presented articles will be included in the next issue of
"Breeze".
It
was discussed about the next issue of "Breeze". The secretary
informed only 2 articles were received. The last date for
receiving the articles was 15th June. It was decided to extend the
date to 30th June. Shri. S.R.Ramanan said
he will give an article on the "Monsoons 2006". DDGM suggested a
small write up on the latest developments in IMD. The "Breeze" may be
released during August. The secretary explained about the dial up connection
and requested to approve the proposal for extending the connection (IMS Web
site) from VSNL for 1 more year by paying about Rs.900/-. The Chairman
suggested that a slot can be allotted in the RMC web site. Shri.
S. Raghavan suggested to arrange visits to some
Scientific Institutions. Shri. S.R. Ramanan suggested to have a lecture about the Coral reafing by Dr. Namalwar.
The Secretary assured that he will take necessary action regarding the above 2
points.
Discussion
was held regarding provision of transport for office bearers of IMS for
attending council / GB meetings & lectures. The chairman gave his decision
that transport may be given only for invited speakers due to some constraints.
The
Secretary thanked the Chairman and all the members. The meeting came to an end.
