INP+ is a non-profitable community based organization of people living with HIV and its secretariat is based in Chennai. Formed in February 1997 by twelve people living with HIV, INP+ is a national network of, for and by people living with HIV/AIDS in India. The organization aims to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV in India. INP+ exists to provide a sense of belonging and togetherness to people living with HIV.

Today it has state level branches of its network in Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala and Manipur, which subscribe to its ideology. At INP+ we believe that unless the rights of people living with HIV are not recognized and respected, prevention would not be effective. Human rights and care are linked. INP+ plans to launch its media campaign next year in order to remove the misconceptions from the mindset of the people about people living with HIV. INP+ is also planning to launch a series of services ranging from information dissemination to providing residential care to people living with HIV. It is essential that the epidemic gains visibility as that is the best way of bringing about behavioral change. However, only if there is social acceptance of PLWHA will there be visibility.

INP+ plans to give visibility to the epidemic through various means, most important of which is INP+ speakers speaking about themselves in public. We also intend to facilitate the formation of networks of people living with HIV throughout the country to create an effective response to the changing nature of the epidemic.

We believe that till such a time that people living with HIV are included in the mainstream prevention, behavior change in masses cannot be achieved . Information should be provided to people living with HIV in order to help them live positively. This task becomes difficult with the fact that 90% of people living with HIV in India do not know their status. With 5 million cases, this could be fatal for our AIDS prevention work. We believe that the need of the hour is to create a multi-sectored response and INP+ is determined to build collaboration with all the forces working to fight against AIDS.

The membership of INP+ is open to all Indians living with HIV, irrespective of gender, cast, religion etc. The confidentiality of members is ensured by INP+.
