HISTORY


Nachimuthu Polytechnic was established in the year 1957 by Arutchelvar Dr.N.Mahalingam, in memory of his beloved father, Thiru P. Nachimuthu Gounder. Thiru Nachimthu Gounder was an embodiment of hard work, sincerity,truthfulness, and perseverance.
He established the ANAMALAIS BUS TRANSPORT COMPANY, a pioneer in Road Transport Industry in Tamilnadu. He desired to impart technical education and training to the young students of Pollachi and the rural areas in its neighbourhood. His cherished desire was fulfilled by his worthy son Dr. N.Mahalingam. Nachimuthu Polytechnic is having a wide area of 60 acres with a green environment. It is situated, 3 Km from Pollachi Town on Pollachi - Palani Road. In the 40th year of its functioning it has grown to become one of the foremost Aided Polytechnics in Tamilnadu.
When it was started in 1957, it offered only three Diploma courses in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with an annual intake of 120 students. During past 40 years, six more diploma courses were added, namely, Textile Technology, Commercial Practice, Electronics & Communication, Computer Technology, Automobile Engineering and Refrigeration & Air-conditioning. The Polytechnic offers Post Diploma courses in Automobile Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Electroncis and Computer Applications.
As a Co-educational institution it admits boys and girls in all Diploma and Post Diploma Programmes. Of the total strength of 1100, 300 are girls. This emphasis our desire to provide technical education opportunity to the rural girls. The Polytechnics has been granted full autonomous status from the year 1991-92.
ADMINISTRATION : The Institution is managed by a Governing Council with Dr.N.Mahalingam as its Chairman, Thiru M.Manickam , son of Dr.N.Mahalingam is the Vice-Chairman of our Governing Council. The Governing Council comprises of representatives from Management, State Board of Technical Education and Training, Tamil Nadu and Central Government. An Academic Board and An Awards Committee is functioning to review the performance of the students in the examination and to suggest suitable changes in the curricula and methodology.

STUDENT ADMISSION
The candidates will be admitted into the Diploma programmes at different entry levels according to their entry qualifications. Age and entry qualificatiois will be followed as per the Government of Tamilnadu admission rules from time to time.
Category I - SSLC & Equivalent Passed - 75%
Category II - HSC Academic Passed - 10%
Category III - HSC Vocational Passed - 10%
Category IV - ITI Passed - 5%
LIBRARY : A library with 24350 volumes of text books, reference books hand outs, journals and newspapers is functioning in the polytechnic between 9 am to 6 pm. There are 228 volumes donated by Jindal Trust, 10942 ISI specifications and 52 periodicals. A book bank with 813 volumes and World Bank Assistance with 920 volumes on various branches of study is functioning in the library for the benefit of poort and needy students. The books are made available on payment of a nominal fee for the year. Under Nachimuthu-Cambrian Partnership programme about 1542 volumes of books have been received from Cambrian College, Canada. Each student will be given two library tickets and the teaching staff are given six library tickets for borrowing books. The borrowed books should be returned within fifteen days. The Polytechnic has Membership with British Council Library have established a tie-up under which the Polytechnic staff and students are allowed to borrow books from the British Council Library on a loan basis.
