MAN AND ENVIRONMENT
"What is man without the beasts?
If all the beasts were gone,
Men would die
From great loneliness of spirit,
For whatever happens to the
Beasts
Also happens to the man..
Teach your children
What we have taught our children:
That the earth is their mother
Whatever befalls
The earth befalls the sons of the
Earth.
If men spit upon the ground,
They spit upon themselves.
The earth does not belong to man,
Man belongs to the earth.
Man did not weave the web of life,
He is merely a strand in it.
Whatever he does to the web,
He does to himself."
The above text is portion of a letter weitten by Chief Seattle of the Squamish tribe in 1854 to the President of the United States to protest on the way the white settlers were treating the tribal people and the environment of North America.Other Places to go:
