1. Siddha trial. Using innovative and traditional therapies of the Siddha system of medicare which has been practised for the past 5000 years, the modern challenges of HIV are being faced. Scientific research based studies documenting the efficacy of Siddha drugs using viral load assays and CD4 and CD8 cell counts before, during and after therapy are underway. Drugs used in this trial are Rasagandhi Mezhugu, Amukkara Chooranam and Nellikkai Lehyam and many others. Prepared by well known siddha practitioners. The Preliminary results have been presented at 13th International AIDS Conference at Durban, South Africa ( reference no : ThPpB1441) were out of 24 patients 4 died of brain diseases but 11 improved and 2 patients went below measurable levels of RT-PCR in their peripheral blood Physical therapy like Ice treatment is a novel attempt aimed at reducing the viral load and control of the disease per se. (A kind of Varma therapy in the Siddha system). 2. Herbal preparations for Asthma. Research projects involving Dalmia Biotechnology group using herbal drugs for the treatment of asthma are continuing. 3. Spirulina in the treatment of Wasting Syndrome of HIV. Spirulina is blue-green algae (fungus) which is to be tried shortly in the treatment of severe wasting syndrome of HIV. This project is sponsored by Antenna Technologies, France. The results show some promise. 4. Nandrolone in the treatment of Wasting Syndrome of HIV. Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid which seems to give promising results in the treatment of wasting syndrome. This project is sponsored by Infar India and the intake of patients had already begun.The project has been completed. 5. GHTM / ICMR TRC Project This is the study on assessing the effect of HIV on TB diagnosis and management. A number of patients with HIV-TB Coinfections have already been studied in great detail. The outcome will help formulah suitable strategies to control of HIV and TB - the twin scourges of our times. 6. India Project The India Project of Indian Council for Medical Research and Neuropsychiatry department of UCLA, USA has been initiated. This studies the attitudes and knowledge of women towards marriage, sex and family. Incidentally this is the first Indo-American Joint Clinical Research Project of the Country. A pilot study has been completed. |
